a few weeks ago maya karin challenged all professionals to go and watch shuhaimi baba's 1957: hati malaya on the big screen.

being professionals (thehehe...), my husband and decided to take up the challenge, took a leave and went to see it last monday.

the verdict? mesmerizing.....

just like zyda, i was moved to tears by scenes depicting the hardship that our forefathers had to endure in order to gain independence. all the big names delivered good performances, but the highest accolade must be presented to the virtually unknown actors who played datuk onn jaafar and tunku abd rahman (zaefrul and kamarulzaman if i'm not mistaken).

being filmed on a limited budget, of course you can't compare this film with hollywood epics, but there is just something about this movie that makes you root for it. i know some people are ashamed to watch or admit that they have watched malay movies, but when it comes to 1957: hati malaya, i assure you there's nothing to be ashamed about.
