i used to hate country music. despite paving the way for some performers to venture to other genre esp. rock n roll, to me, country music was always associated with rednecks, overload of sequinnes, annoying southern twang, dolly parton, or in the words of my mom, "...lagu orang putih tua", literally means old, white man's song.
but that was before i listened to man in black by johnny cash.
i was captivated by the politically-charged lyrics that is still relevant today, the fact that it was accompanied by all the common elements of country music arrangement awed me more, since i never thought that that kind of song could emerge from the country music scene. man in black change my perception of country music, although not entirely. and i was more intrigued with the man who wrote tho song, johnny cash.

thus with great anticipation i watched the movie walk the line, a biopic about the late mr. cash. the movie successfully provided us an insight into the life of the man in black himself, from his traumatic childhood to the struggle and tribulations in his adulthood, from his first audition to his first concert, from his failed first marriage to finally finding his real true love, but nothing excites me more than the opportunity provided by the movie to hear other songs created by johnny cash. joaquin phoenix is so believable as johnny cash, his singing voice is simply amazing. in conclusion, walk the line i did !
